Speaking in Kitui during the opening of a bar owned by Prof Makau Mutua, Raila said that the head of state was more concerned about their political differences than anything else.

He also said that Uhuru had told him he will not come along with Deputy President William Ruto during the talks as well.

“I said I didn’t want to talk to those people who want to talk about 2022. He (Uhuru) said he would not come with Ruto, but also asked that I don’t come with Kalonzo. We agreed that the initial talks were to talk about talks,” he said.

He also said that the president had asked him to tell the New York-based law scholar to stop being too critical on Kenya's political future.

“When I was coming here, I told President Kenyatta that I was coming to open Makau’s hotel and he told me to tell him to stop being too critical,” Raila said.

The revelation comes at a time when the succession politics have continued to take the centre stage across the nation.
