Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri has defended Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over escalating insecurity in his home turf.
The vocal senator said Matang'i should not be dragged into insecurity because he is hardworking to ensure every Kenyan is safe.
Ongeri stated that since Matiang'i was appointed to head the Interior Ministry docket, he has been doing a commendable job.
"I want to defend Matiang'i from claims that he is sleeping on his job. Insecurity being reported in Kisii and Nyamira has nothing to do with Matiang'i who is focused to ensure criminals are weed out," said Ongeri.
The ODM allied senator reiterated that Kisii and Nyamira residents should not keep quiet anytime they realize criminals are living among them.
He challenged local politicians not to criticize Matiang'i in his new roles in government adding that Matiang'i needs support from local leaders for him to deliver.
"We all know Matiang'i was elevated due to his good performance. There is no need for politicians to continue dragging Matiang'i into politics during this time he is working hard to bring reforms in the police force," he added.
Ongeri was speaking at Gesusu market on Tuesday.
