Plans are at an advanced stage to set up free Wi-Fi hotspots in Eldoret town.
According to the Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) department Dr Emily Kogos, they have identified two places that the free Wi-Fi will be availed to locals.
Addressing the press in Eldoret town on Friday, Dr Kogos said the move is meant to help enhance access to information by the locals.
“We are also targeting our students who need internet access to enhance their studies apart from enabling residents to be able to get information on the internet as fast as they can,” she said.
The County Executive noted that they had identified Nandi Park and the Eldoret Kenya Library Services as the two areas that residents and students will be able to access the free internet.
“We are at the final stages for this initiative and soon the free Wi-Fi will be available in the two areas,” she noted.
With Eldoret town playing host to tens of institutions of higher learning, setting up the free Wi-Fi hotspots will come in handy in enhancing their studies.
The county government of Uasin Gishu has been working on digitizing its services. Already, locals are able to pay for their business license fee online.
