A political analyst has warned Deputy President (DP) William Ruto against a move to ditch the Jubilee party ahead of 2022 General Election.
There have been reports that Ruto, the Jubilee deputy party leader, was contemplating leaving the ruling party after his relationship with his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly grew cold.
The speculations were sparked off after some youths from Kiambu County donned t-shirts with colours resembling those of Ruto's defunct United Republican Party (URP), when he toured the area recently.
Sustained attacks from 'Kieleweke', a group which has aligned itself to the president, have also been seen as a reason why the DP may decide to bolt out of the governing outfit.
But according to political scientist Robert Mungai, Ruto will make a big mistake by decamping from Jubilee, since the move will highly dent his presidential ambition.
“Dr Ruto’s 2022 presidential fortunes hang in Jubilee because when the party collapses, he will have to start from zero and come up with grassroots leaders," he told Nation.
Mungai opined that if the DP's 'Tangatanga' will abandon Uhuru, 'Kieleweke' will join hands with other parties and form a formidable opposition to Ruto’s bid.
"This will easily attract pre-coalition deals which will complicate his chances of becoming president. Starting a political party from zero will also prove harder than struggling to keep Jubilee alive as it has structures that he will rely on in 2022," the analyst said.
