Speaking to journalists in Kitui Town on Tuesday,  Ngilu said that the Kalonzo-Mutua unity will have a positive impact on the Kamba community.

Ngilu stated that it is time for politicians in Ukambani to shelve their differences and work together.

"It is good that Kalonzo and Mutua have agreed to meet and shelve their differences for the sake of our unity as a community," she said.

Ngilu said that disunity and political blackmail among Kamba leaders is to blame for the region's high poverty levels.

The Kitui Governor said that the Ukambani region will have political bargaining powers if Kalonzo, Mutua and other leaders work together.

"It is time for the Ukambani region to stand and reclaim its stake on matters national politics," she added.

Ngilu at the same time urged Governor Mutua to consider shelving his 2022 presidential bid in favour of Kalonzo.

The county boss said that Kalonzo is the popular candidate among the two, adding that Mutua should consider giving him space to be the Kamba kingpin.

"They are both our sons but Kalonzo stands a better chance of clinching the top seat compared to Governor Mutua," said Ngilu.

Kalonzo and Mutua are among top politicians who have declared interest in the 2022 presidential election.

On Saturday, Kalonzo and Mutua met briefly at Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana's son wedding where they agreed to meet this week.

Their planned meeting has been lauded,  with political analysts terming it good news for the Ukambani region ahead of 2022.
