Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga has been advised to move away from Japan and join a club in Europe for competitive football action.
Olunga currently plays for Kashiwa Reysol, which features in the Japanese second tier league (J-League 2).
So far, Olunga has scored 19 goals for Kashiwa this season.
In an exclusive interview in Kisumu over the weekend, football analyst Dennis Mogendi urged Olunga to move away from Japan.
“Olunga should look for a competitive league. The way Olunga is performing shows you right away that the league he is featuring in is of low quality,” said the Western Stima Head of Communication.
“Before I recognize him, he should join a competitive league where he will fight with fellow men. Who are the defenders he is playing against? Do we know them? Olunga should leave Japan and join a team in Sweden or Belgium,” he added.
On Saturday, Olunga scored one goal as his Kashiwa Reysol side beat Kogoshima United 3-0.
His team now leads the log with 78 points, and is expected to be promoted back to the Japanese top flight league at the end of this season.
Olunga joined his current side last year, from Chinese Club Guizhou Zhicheng. The 25-year-old attacker previously played for Thika United, Tusker FC, Gor Mahia, Djurgårdens IF in Sweden and Girona in Spain (he was on loan from Guizhou Zhicheng).
The lanky striker is expected to feature for Harambee Stars against Egypt in the 2021 AFCON group G qualification match in Cairo, on Thursday.
