Al-Shabaab militants suffered a huge blow on Thursday after it emerged that one of senior most commander was captured by security officers.
In an operation at Hiran region, AMISOM troops working with SNA descended Bula-Burte region, injuring the commander before capturing him.
"Somali military says troops captured a senior Al-Shabab commander wounded in operation carried out in areas near Bula-Burte town in Hiran region, without disclosing his name," Garowe Online reports.
The huge security boost comes just a fortnight after Al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Umar warned Kenya and the US about the Indian Ocean maritime dispute.
Early this week, the militants launched twin attacks, with the first one, which foiled, targeting Ballidogle military training base manned by US African Command troops.
Baledogle is a major launching site for US drone operations against Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-linked group which controls large parts of Somalia, and the Islamic State in Somalia outfit.
"Two heavy explosions occurred, the first one bigger than the other. There was also a heavy exchange of gunfire after the blasts but we don't know about the details," Mohamed Adan, a Somali elder close to the scene of the attack, told AFP by phone.
In a separate incident on Monday, a security official said EU advisers training the Somali National Army were also attacked by a car bomb in Mogadishu.
"There was a car bomb targeting the EU military advisors along the industrial road. A vehicle loaded with explosives was rammed into one of the convoy vehicles," said Omar Abikar, a Somali security officer.
Also, police in Kenya are on alert after one Al-Shabaab operative is said to have crossed over the border after serving a two year sentence in Somalia.
