Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has pleaded with tea farmers in the county not to uproot the crop due to poor bonus payment.
The county boss, while speaking on Friday at the county headquarters, said tea farmers should not be incited to uproot the crop.
He assured that his government is moving fast to intervene on the poor bonus payment.
"I am pleading with farmers not to uproot the crop because my administration through the agriculture department is working around the clock to ensure tea factories are paying farmers good bonuses," he said.
The ODM governor faulted tea factory directors for making decisions on behalf of farmers without proper consultations.
He said greedy tea factory directors should be sent packing to have serious people serve as directors.
"Directors who prioritize their stomachs should not be allowed to serve our farmers. There is need to have competent directors who will put the interests of tea farmers at heart by ensuring the tea growers get good bonuses," he noted.
