The UN mission to South Sudan relieved off Mr. Ondieki over claims that he failed to protect civilians during the Juba crisis in 2016.

While appearing for vetting in parliament over his new assignment, Ondieki however insisted that he is yet to know why he was dismissed.

"Up to date, I have never known the accusations against me," he said.

He said that contrary to his previous missions, the team in South Sudan did not involve him in making a number of decisions.

"That was unlike in Somalia when I was running the force, and I took full responsibility by giving orders," Ondieki said, adding that they were few thus could not reach everyone in Juba.

He added: ""After four months, I got a letter inviting me to go New York for induction. When I got to NewYork I was told there was a report blaming me for not protecting civilians."

He is among a host of leaders who have been posted to serve as ambassadors among them former Air Force commander Thuita Mwangi.

The South Sudanese crisis escalated leading to death of hundreds but since then, Kenya through opposition leader Raila Odinga has intervened.

As party of UN, Kenya has been contributing troops to countries facing challenge with the first one done in 2001 in Sierra Leone.
