Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Dr James Macharia has confirmed Dr. Daniel Manduku to the position of Managing Director (MD) of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
Manduku who was appointed KPA acting MD six months ago, has officially replaced Catherine Mturi-Wairi who was suspended by the KPA Board after her appointment on July 2016.
According to Michael Maina, KPA Board member, Wairi was sent home for allegedly failing to meet the company's performance targets.
The decision was reached following a Board meeting also attended by Transport Principal Secretary Paul Maringa.
Maina told the press that the Board had "decided to send Wairi home due to lack of effective leadership at the port, non-responsive work culture, consistent failure to implement board resolutions, the absence of explicit performance targets and the failure to implement them.

While confirming Manduku's appointment, CS Macharia said the appointment of Dr. Manduku which takes effect as from today November 30, 2018 comes after a rigorous exercise undertaken by the KPA Board of Directors to recruit a managing director.
Manduku becomes the Authority's 14th MD since KPA was established in 1978.
