Police have arrested a new suspect in the ongoing search for killers involved in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Sharon's lifeless body was retrieved from a thicket in Oyugis town, Homabay county early September, after reportedly being abducted outside Graca Hotel in Rongo, Migori, days prior.
And on Friday, another Migori county employee Grado Kithine Ochollah was nabbed in Migori in relation to the murder and is being accused of hiring out the car used by Sharon's killers.
The suspect was moved to Nairobi on Monday, before being arraigned at a Kiambu court.
Appearing before Kiambu Senior Magistrate Patricia Gichohi, investigating officer Clement Mwangi claimed the witnesses have severally named Ochollah.
This, according to the prosecution, makes him a person of interest.
“Preliminary investigations have linked the respondent to the murder of the student, whose body was found dumped at Owade Bridge in Oyugis within Homa Bay County," he is quoted by the Standard.
Ochollah was remanded for ten days, four days short of the 14 applied for by the prosecution, pending further probe.
This comes at a time when the main suspect in the case and Migori Governor Okoth Obado has since resumed his executive roles at the county after his release on Thursday.
Obado's two associates Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, however, remain in custody, with Obiero too being accused of having lent out the Toyota Fielder car that was later used in the abduction of Sharon.
