Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga arrived in Kisumu on Thursday to lay the ground ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit in the region next week.
The head of State was in Kisumu on Thursday to lead the official launch of the pilot phase of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program.
Addressing residents of Kisumu at the Posta Grounds in Kisumu on Friday, Odinga asked Kisumu residents to come out in large numbers and welcome President Uhuru.
He said Uhuru's visit in the region is as a result of their newly-found working relationship, despite having been bitter rivals in last year’s presidential race.
“We came together and embraced each other through the handshake. We are now coming to Kisumu. We have been to various places in the country. Recently, we were in Kakamega during Mashujaa Day celebrations,” said Odinga.
“For the first time after the March 9 handshake, we are coming to Kisumu together. Are you ready? Are you ready? How many are ready to welcome visitors, let me see by a show of hands,” added the former Prime Minister.
UHC’s pilot phase will be implemented in four Counties; namely Kisumu, Nyeri, Machakos and Isiolo.
