Legendary Olympian Nyantika Maiyoro asked President Uhuru Kenyatta not to be cowed by those opposing handshake with Raila Odinga moments before he breathed his last, it has emerged.

Walter Mounde, a former student of aspirant in Nyamira, said the pioneer athlete expressed his satisfaction with the unity deal, adding that it would fight negative ethnicity.

Mr Maiyoro, who died on Sunday, became the first ever athlete to win Kenyan a gold medal in an international event at Madagascar in 1953 during the Indian Ocean games.

"Mzee was in high spirits. He expressed his satisfaction with handshake and asked Uhuru to spread it across the country. He said it is a positive move.

"He also talked about corruption and urged the president not to spare his friends. He said due to graft, the country has struggled to make positive improvement," said Mounde.

Also, Maiyoro had made a passionate appeal to the president and Raila Odinga to ensure he recovers his grabbed piece of land at Nyansiongo in Borabu Sub County.

Last week, Uhuru directed the labds ministry to ensure the land tittle deed is processed but he unfortunately died while waiting for the crucial document.
