Manyatta B ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Pamela Akinyi Odhiambo who was arrested yesterday is expected to be charged today in Court in Kakamega and not Kisumu, as many could have expected.
The Western Region EACC Manager Chibole Aura said that the MCA will be tried in Kakamega over security reasons, as a crowd of angry residents had already gathered at the time of the arrest.
“During the arrest, the kind of crowds that were gathering we fear that they might hinder our arraigning her in court. So for purposes of her security and fairness, it is only good we take her to Kakamega,” said Mr Aura.
Mrs Odhiambo was arrested on Wednesday by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over allegations that she presented a fake completion letter from KCA University to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in order to be cleared to run for the seat in 2017.
Pamela who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in August 2017, is among the five female elected MCAs in Kisumu County Assembly which is dominated by male MCAs.
Out of a total of 35 wards, 30 wards are being represented by male MCAs.
