Suspended youthful minister Duke Mainga on Saturday made a rare public appearance, slightly a week after his unprecedented dismissal by Governor James Ongwae.

So thorny was his suspension that a section of youths from both Nyamira and Kisii Counties threatened to hold protests to demand for his reinstatement immediately.

"He represents the youthful population across Gusii. Suspending him is the worst mistake by Governor James Ongwae. We demand that he's reinstated," Beavon Magare, a youth leader had said.

Although Ongwae did not elaborate the meaning of 'childish behavior', it however emerged that Mr Mainga had nasty exchanges with County Secretary  Patrick Lumumba.

But on Saturday during the burial of Samuel Ragira alias OCS Ragira, Mainga stayed off the debate and instead, focused on the life of the deceased politician, who was shot dead in Nairobi.

"It's sad that we have lost a visionary young man. I urge the state to investigate and tell us the truth. Killing an innocent soul is the worst thing that can happen to humanity," he said.

Mr Mainga became the youngest county minister when he was appointed to head sports department in Kisii at the age of 27. He's credited for facelifting Gusii stadium to the current status.

At Bomachoge where Mainga comes from, Governor James Ongwae recently seemed to admonish the youthful leader over using of emiseries to reach him.
