In a statement, Wafula Chebukati said the polls scheduled for Thursday will go on as planned, adding that adequate security has been deployed by the government.

"The election will go on as planned, we have deployed our team for preparation. The government has assured of security," said Chebukati, adding that residents should turn out early for the exercise.

On Tuesday, one person died following chaos at one of the candidates' home, leading to the arrest of Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.

Malindi MP Ms Jumwa was taken to a Mombasa Court on Wednesday with reports indicating that she might be remanded for 14 days to allow for proper investigations.

ODM claimed that Jumwa, a rebel in the party, stormed a meeting organised by the party's candidate with a man believed to be her bodyguard shooting and killing and agent.

While ODM has been supporting Katana, Jumwa had endorsed Omar, the immediate former MCA who decamped the party to run as an independent candidate.

The two candidates for Ganda ward by-election have been summoned by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, hours to the polls.

In a statement on Wednesday, Chairman Wafula Chebukati regretted the incident, adding that both the Commission and the DCI are investigating it.

"We have received information about the chaos at Reuben Katana's home. The commission condemns the incident and calls for tolerance," read part of the statement.

"We have summoned Abdul Omar and Reuben Katana as DCI team continues with investigations. We regret the death of the innocent person."
