The body of the late Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth was cremated on Saturday at a private ceremony.
The cremation took place at the Kariokor cemetery after a court allowed the process to continue following a case that had been filed in relation to paternity issues.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials were present during the ceremony, with ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna confirming his attendance moments after the exercise was undertaken.
“It happened this morning and we have just left,” said Edwin Sifuna, as quoted by Capital FM.
Nominated Nairobi MCA Ann Thumbi had moved to court seeking to stop the cremation following a paternity related row with the family of the deceased.
Sifuna, however, noted that there was no longer a dispute between members of the family of the deceased. He also said that everything went on as planned.
“We no longer have a dispute because the matter was settled. She was allowed to extract DNA samples from the body before internment,” said Sifuna.
Ken died after a long battle with cancer.
ODM leader Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had appealed to the parties in the dispute to settle the matter out of court.
The court ordered the DNA samples to be taken from the body of the deceased before the cremation exercise.
