A number of youths have been locked out in the ongoing nationwide Kenya Defense Force recruitment exercise for failure to meet set requirements.
In Nakuru, the exercise saw over 600 youths avail themselves at Afraha Stadium to try their luck in the exercise while at Njoro Boys High school over 800 youths turned up.
Simon Mwangi was among those who qualified.
“The exercise was tough but I thank God I have made it,” said Mwangi.
Addressing media during the exercise at Njoro Boys High school, senior recruitment officer in the region Lieutenant Colonel Kumba said the exercise has been smooth.
He stated that the issue that has been there of discolored teeth among youths in Nakuru county due to fluoride has been taken as environmental issue and no longer a hindrance for individuals from that area to join Forces.
“The exercise has been smooth we have not experienced any challenges. Those who were turned away were due to anomalies in the academic credentials, age and medical grounds,” said the officer.
On the concerns raised earlier that the exercise was favoring male gender, the officer was categorical that not all centres were given opportunities to recruit ladies.
“There are centres which were given opportunity for ladies. As you know the Ministry of defense launched the gender policy and as KDF we are trying whenever we are told o recruit ladies we do so," he said.
On Thursday the exercise will take place in Molo.
The recruitment exercise which commenced on November 29 is expected to run up to December 18 2018.
