The governor was taken by officers to shed more light on his role in the alleged loss of funds in his government.

The arrest comes after the sleuths conducted a search at the governor’s homes in Runda, and Garden Estate, Nairobi County.

Waitutu left the Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in shock after admitting that he could not account for Sh2.5 billion of the financial year 2017/2018.

“This may be a system-generated document. Anything could have happened. It could be a mistake or someone may have put it in our documents to portray our county as being irresponsible,” he said.

The first term county boss has continued to face criticisms from different leaders as well as residents over the management of resources. His allies claim that he has been facing woes because of his association with Deputy President William Ruto.

Ruto, who is considered as one of the front runners in the race for the presidency in 2022, once defended the governor over the misuse of funds in his government.

He asked him to account for what he received from the national treasury and leave the rest to the national government
