Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero’s corruption trial will start in May 2019, Milimani Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti has said.

The Magistrate on Tuesday set May 29, 2019, as the date when the graft case against the former governor will begin.

The prosecution told court that it has lined up 27 witnesses who will testify against the former governor.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji through State Counsel Joseph Riungu told court that he has supplied witnesses statements and documents to Kidero’s lawyers.

The magistrate said that the court will not entertain adjournments once the case starts.

In August, Kidero was charged with mismanagement and embezzlement of county funds amounting to Sh213 million.

The former Nairobi governor along with other eight accused persons among them former County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa denied the corruption charges.

Kidero is out on Sh2 million bond.
