Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga is a man in the eye of a storm as the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji trained his guns on him over alleged corruption.
Haji has since approved the arrest and prosecution of the county chief over allegations of economic crimes revolving around graft and embezzlement of county coffers.
Haji further wants Rasanga investigated and subjected to the law over allegations of misusing a public office, alleging that he used public funds to facilitate his travel and that of his associates abroad.
The said crime happened between 2013 when he came to power and 2016.
‘’DPP Noordin Haji approved the prosecution of Siaya Governor Cornell Rasanga and county officials for using county funds to buy air tickets for his family and friends from 2013 to 2016,’’ NTV tweeted on Friday.
This is one of the approved cases of all the 91 forwarded to him for prosecution, consideration and approval.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has forwarded 56 of these cases. The DPP's office has established a cordial working relationship with the EACC in the fight against graft.
Rasanga who hails from the opposition’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is serving his second and last constitutional term.
The Siaya Governor is yet to respond to the allegations and an impending arrest.
