A section of farmers in Uasin Gishu has condemned recent utterances by legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto against three Members of Parliament from the North Rift region.
This is after 12 MPs from different regions addressing the press from Nairobi on Monday accused the trio, Alfred Keter(Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben) and Joshua Kutuny (Cherangany), of using farmers' woes for their own selfish agenda.
The three had linked DP Ruto to maize cartels and called for his investigation.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday, the farmers led by Uasin Gishu Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) director Kipkorir Menjo termed DP Ruto allies utterances as unfortunate and ill-intended.
“We want to condemn the utterances with strongest terms possible as it is disrespecting the three leaders. We didn’t expect abuse from them but instead solutions to farmers problems,” said Menjo accompanied by a host of farmer's representative across maize growing areas in the North Rift.
The farmers further noted that if the 12 MPs could use the unity they had in condemning the three MPs in solving their problems, perennial challenges the agriculture sector has been facing ould be no more.
“The MPs should not blame those who have come to cry with us but instead come up with legislation that will help solve farmer’s problems once and for all,” added another farmer who singled out Uasin Gishu Senator Prf. Margaret Kamar and MPs Tiren, Kutuny and Keter as the only elected leaders who have shown interest and willingness to address their challenges.
