Emerging details indicate that a trio of leading Western Kenya leaders are working around the clock to lock the region off ahead of the 2022 general elections.
The trio; Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa are leading the new Western union bid.
According to the Nation, the three have since compiled a team of professionals to execute the new strategy seeking to ensure that all the Luhya, Teso and Sabaot communities vote in one direction come 2022.
The plot is also aimed at locking out Deputy President William Ruto, who has been the main nightmare for the leaders, thanks to his inroads and a good number of pointmen in the region.
The ongoing plans to galvanize the region which has for a long time shown division in voting patterns was confirmed by Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu.
However, the Tongaren MP refused to release more information for fear that their detractors will get a hint and come in to sabotage the plan.
“There is a serious plot underway but I am sorry this time around we are doing it chini ya maji (secretly). This is because every time we talk about our plans to the media and in public rallies, we give our detractors a weapon to disrupt our plot or divide us,” Eseli told the Nation.
Among the people fully involved in the said plot is Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli who is said to have been engaged in a series of meetings.
The trade unionist has been tasked with the role of linking the region with external forces and is said to have since succeeded in reconciling ODM leader Raila Odinga and Wetangula so far.
This comes barely a month after former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, a strong ally of DP Ruto mended fences with Mudavadi, pledging his support for his 2022 presidential bid.
