Lakeview Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Karanja Mburu has expressed the need for Wards to increase bursary allocation towards education in order to benefit more needy students in the area.
Speaking on Saturday at Kayole, during the disbursement of bursary cheques to needy students, the MCA noted that the current allocation of Sh1 million does not meet the needs of many students.
While noting that the area has continued to witness an increase in population, the youthful MCA stated that in the next financial year he will ensure public participation on the possibility of increasing the bursary allocation to Sh2 million.
This, he said, will help boost the education standards in the densely populated Lakeview ward of Naivasha Sub County.
“The constitution is clear on development and public participation. As a leader of this area, I have toured every part of the ward and the population is increasing and therefore the current allocation of the bursary is not enough,” said Karanja.
Up to now, needy students in the ward have been able to benefit from bursary to a tune of Sh805, 000. The beneficiaries have been able to attend secondary schools, colleges, universities and tertiary institutions.
“The remaining cheques will be rolled over because we still have Sh170, 000 remaining to meet the Sh1 million target,” said the MCA.
The youthful MCA also lauded the National government following a move to set up an industrial Park in Naivasha.
He says this will be a boost to the economy as many youths will be employed.
In preparation for this, the MCA has partnered with Vera Institute of Science and Technology that will see over 50 youths from the ward enrol for various courses.
"As a ward, we have partnered with Vera Institute so that our youths can enrol for various courses so that when the park comes they will have the skills to be absorbed,” said Karanja.
