In the last election, female politicians came out in large number to contest for various elective positions in the country.
Most of them failed at the nomination stage, with a number of the big chunk being eliminated at the election proper.
It was expected that Kisumu former Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga will be in the contest, but she did not vie for any elective post but instead focused on ensuring that her brother, Raila Odinga captured the presidential seat.
Her brother did not get the seat, and she was appointed the Head of Special Programmes in Kisumu county.
Ms Odinga has used her role to build her grassroots support in Kisumu, and the larger Nyanza region.
Her vocal nature has endeared her to the electorate and being a member of the Odinga family gives her an added advantage in matters political.
Her staunchness and strong support for her party the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is a plus for her since it has massive support in the region.
In addition, apart from the former Prime Mister, and his elder brother Oburu Odinga who is aged, Ms Odinga is the only other member of the family currently involved in active politics.
Being out of elective posts in the county has given her time to re-strategise, and organise her future plans quietly, a move that could catch her opponents off guard.
Should she decide to contest for a seat in 2022, be it in Kisumu or Siaya, she will cause massive trouble and give her rivals political headaches.
