Parliament committee has approved the nomination of Hillary Nzioki Mutyambai as the new Inspector General of Police.
Mutyambai is on the verge of succeeding the former IG Joseph Boinet following his retirement after completion of his four-year term.
Boinnet, 56, was not eligible for a second term before paving way for the appointment of new IG.
Both Senate and the National Assembly agreed that Mutyambai is the right man for the job. They expressed that he is the best candidate to transform the police service is he is given the job following the vetting process.
He is now expected to deal with a number of issues including corruption and extra judicial killings among others once he takes over office. President Uhuru Kenyatta is anticipated to formally appoint him for the post before he is sworn into office Chief Justice David Maraga.
Led by Kiamba MP Paul Koinange National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security unanimously backed his nomination. The team said that he has vast knowledge and experience to change the police unit once he gets the job.
“Having considered the suitability, capacity and integrity of the nominee, and pursuant to article 245(2) (a) of the Constitution and Section 8 (2) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act Parliament approves the nomination of Hilary Nzioki Mutyambai,” read the statement from the committee, as quoted by Standard.
