Speaking in Kangundo, National funds for the disabled of Kenya member of board of trustee Julia Ojiambo said that the disabled go through difficulties trying to access most of the buildings since they are constructed in a way that they can't accommodate them.

“There are things a disabled person can’t do for him/herself no matter how accessible the building and its units might be, try to make it as accessible as possible to them so that they can have more responsibilities as this restores their self-esteem and dignity,” she said.

She said this can be achieved by ensuring doors and hallways are wide enough, have clear paths of movement providing a livable space.

"A person using a wheelchair needs wide hallways while those who use walking canes and walkers need paths that are clear of any obstructions that might trip them", she said.

Mike Kisyulya in the organisation urged parents with children living with disabilities to bring them out to get help and make an impact in the society.

He said that disability is not the end of life and many disabled people in the world have done great things than normal people.

"Don't hide these kids bring them out. There are funds in both the counties and national government to benefit them, you're killing them slowly when you hide them, they too have dreams they want to achieve ", said Kisyulya.

He spoke during a function where more than 30 Kangundo residents living with disabilities benefited from equipment like farm tools, salon equipment, plumbing materials, Carpentry tools among other things.

He urged the beneficiaries to ensure they use the equipment well to change their lives and make a difference in the world.

He advised them not to sell them citing that legal action will be taken against anyone found selling the equipment.

The organisation gave out equipment worth Sh 683,000 shillings totaling to 1.89 million shillings in the whole county.
