Kalonzo records that Raila and Moi tried to use billionaire John Harun Mwau and Joe Nyaga to end his dream for the presidency in 2002.

He reveals that Nyaga decided to drop from the contest leaving him with an upper hand in the region but Mwau remained a threat to a man who dreamed of becoming the commander in chief of the armed forces.

Kalonzo says Raila was positioning himself such that he could also ascend to power while Retired President Daniel Arap Moi was backing President Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed him.

“For instance, both Raila and Moi campaigned hard for John Harun Mwau and Joe Nyaga, two politicians from my Eastern region, to oppose me at the March 2002 Kanu polls held at the Moi Sports Complex in Kasarani. Nyaga withdrew from the race,” he wrote.

The relationship between Raila and Kalonzo weakened when the latter skipped the controversial swearing in ceremony conducted at Uhuru Park following the disputed August 8, 2017's presidential elections.
