According to Kenya News Agency (KNA),  Katra Ahmed Ali emerged the top student in the county after posting a mean grade of A- (minus) of 76 points in the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Speaking to KNA, the top student revealed that with proper preparations, nothing can stop the girl child from soaring high in national exams.

"Girls only lack ample opportunity to realize their dreams. I am sure that with proper facilities, girls can perform wonders in this region. I expected to perform well since I worked hard and prayed to God. I thank my parents and teachers who have greatly encouraged me to excel in my studies," Katra said as quoted.

Reinforcing the girl's sentiments, Umu Salam Principal Adow Aden called on parents to accord necessary support to the girl-child, noting that they have proved beyond doubts that they can perform well in academic.

"Parents should always be close to their children and make following up on their academic progress. Girls should be given the opportunity to get an education because they have proven given the chance they can perform extremely well,” Principal Aden told KNA.
