Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has remained silent even as 2022 succession politics takes shape.
Malombe’s silence is now a matter of concern among his supporters as the 2022 General Elections quickly approach.
The last time Malombe was seen in public was in June 2018 when the Court of Appeal trashed his appeal case against Governor Charity Ngilu's election.
The former Wiper governor has since gone silent.
Malombe lost his re-election in the hotly contested 2017 election but petitioned Ngilu’s win.
A close ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Malombe has remained mum even on the former's 2022 presidential ambition.
Just like several other political losers, Malombe is said to be rebranding ahead of the 2022 polls.
According to political analyst peter Ngure, Malombe can stage a come-back in 2022.
The analyst argues that Malombe is experienced and could give Ngilu a run for her money in the next polls.
"Malombe is among political losers in Ukambani who can fight their ways back to active politics owing to their political experiences,” Ngure told this writer on Wednesday.
Ngure said the Kitui gubernatorial election in 2022 will be among those to watch.
Several big political names are said to be eyeing the seat.
Kenya’s ambassador to Uganda Kiema Kilonzo, Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi and Kitui South MP Rachel Kaki Nyamai are among politicians likely to contest the Kitui gubernatorial seat.
Ngilu is also expected to defend her seat in the much-awaited election.
