One memorable moment that soccer lovers will always remember is November 12, 2009, when the FIFA World Cup was touring Kenya among other 52 selected African countries.

On this day, the 6.1 kilograms, 18-carat gold trophy was presented to the presidential pavilion.

According to FIFA rules, only heads of states and World Cup winners are allowed to touch or hold the trophy whereas the general public is only allowed to take pictures with and stand beside the trophy without laying a finger.

Former President Mwai Kibaki was flanked by his coalition partner and rival in the 2007 elections, former Prime Minister Raila who received the World Cup trophy at Nyayo National Stadium.

In front of hundreds of people and cameras, former President Kibaki held the trophy high up in the air to much applause and Raila could not hold back his excitement as he also touched the trophy together with the President.

Raila, however, touched the trophy for only a few seconds before a FIFA official in gloved hands held Raila’s arm and removed him from enjoying the moment of holding the trophy.
