Nakuru County Women Representative Liza Chelule has supported the Affirmative Action Bill that seeks to achieve the two-thirds women representation in regional and national assemblies.
According to Chelule, it will help women to articulate and find practical solutions to their common social-economic concerns.
The Constitutional Amendment bill has been tabled by Uasin Gishu Member of Parliament Gladys Boss Shollei and also aims at scrapping the Women Representative seats to allow pairing of constituencies and wards reserved for women.
"If assented to the la, it will provide practical means of achieving the constitutionally recommended threshold for women representation which has been elusive for decades leading to years of marginalization of women in the country,” Chelule said.
Chelule spoke on Wednesday in Nakuru where she issued cheques worth Sh30 million to organized groups of women, youth groups and people with disabilities from Nakuru County`s 55 wards.
The money is meant to help beneficiaries sustain various joint income generating ventures in a bid to mitigate poverty in the County
