Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda has said that he will throw his weight behind the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate in the Kibra parliamentary race Imran Okoth.
Speaking exclusively to Media Max-owned K24 Television on Wednesday outside parliament, the former Starehe legislator said that he would join ODM in the coming days to support Imran.
He explained that he would support the ODM candidate because he was a 'handshake' candidate.
"And on the basis of the handshake, I will be in Kibera supporting ODM candidate or handshake. Let me not call him an ODM candidate, a handshake candidate," Mr Kamanda said.
Kamanda's words come amid divisions in the governing Jubilee party over who to support in the by-election slated for November.
The so-called Tangatanga team has been vouching for McDonald Mariga while the Kieleweke brigade has expressed an intention to support Imran Okoth.
McDonald Mariga's candidature hangs in the balance as the Kibra returning officer disqualified him after his name was found missing in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) voters register.
Rumours have it that should the veteran footballer fail to be cleared by the IEBC tribunal, then the Tangatanga brigade will throw its weight behind Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo, who is a former aide to veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
