The Kenya Premier League has banned five stadiums that were declared unfit and in bad shape following a poor report on the stadia inspection by the Kenya Premier League Stadia Safety and Security Committee.
"The Stadia Safety and Security Committee has banned the below stadia from hosting league matches. and they will remain so until recommendations for the facelift are met," read the statement
The five stadiums that have been indefinitely banned includes;
Camp Toyoyo, Mumias Sports Complex, Chemelil Sports Complex, Ruaraka sports ground and Thika Sub-county stadium.
KPL noted that the stadia will only be eligible for use once they meet the standards and recommendations set by the inspection committee.
The news is a blow to most Nairobi teams as they will be forced to seek for an alternative playing grounds or share the same venue; a thing likely to overstretch the available facilities as only Kasarani's MISC, Machakos' Kenyatta stadium will be available for use by the most KPL and NSL clubs.
Other stadiums fit for use according to KPL are ;
Kakamega's Bukhungu Stadium, Nakuru's Afraha stadium, Kericho's Green Stadium, Awendo Stadium, Bungoma's Sudi Stadium, and Kisumu's Moi Stadium.
Teams affected by the ban include Tusker (Ruaraka), Thika United (Thika), Chemilil Sugar (Chemelil), Posta Rangers, Kariobangi Sharks, KCB, Mount Kenya United (Camp Toyoyo), Vihiga United and AFC Leopards (Mumias Complex).
Sofapaka's use of Narok stadium is not yet recommended due to its playing surface, which is not flat, while the Nyayo national stadium is yet to be open for football use since its closure for an upgrade.
