According to the North Eastern regional commissioner Mr Mohamed Birik, the government will recruit more reservists who will be stationed across all the 60 villages that spread from the border point of Mandera to Hulugho area in Garissa County.

All the villages, he said, are those along the Kenya-Somali border only.

Speaking to journalists in his office on Saturday after concluding his security tour to Hulugho and Masalani sub-counties in Garissa, Birik stated that the police reservists will be drawn only from retired security men with clean track record while in service.

“The security teams will work under the command of local administrators. Besides fighting terrorist cells in the border points, the police reservists will be tasked with the duty of suppressing radicalization and also sharing information on suspected financiers and sympathizers of the reported terror group,s in the region” Birik said.

Birik's statement comes as a relief to the region that has been battling with insecurity for some time now.
