That former Garissa County Finance Executive Idris Muktar survived a gun attack to see doctors who have been battling to save his life sounds like the stuff of fiction.
He was to killed by those assigned to take him out.
David Mwai, a prime suspect in the assassination attempt who was later found dead in a police cell, told investigators that he had been given a gun and fifteen bullets and instructed to use half of them on Muktar.
But as fate would have it, only one bullet fired and the gun jammed.
That is the bullet that hit the former county executive in the head.
Fortunately, he was later rushed to a hospital where doctors battled to save him.
Had the original plan of firing at least seven bullets into Muktar's skull worked, the chances are high that he would not have had the chance to fight for his life at a Nairobi hospital.
