Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula now claims that he was the reason for opposition leader Raila Odinga’s remarkable performance in Western Kenya in his August 8 presidential bid.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, the Ford-Kenya took all the credit, claiming that he singlehandedly delivered 90 per cent of the Luhya vote to Raila’s basket.

‘’I delivered 90 per cent of the Western Kenya vote to Raila. All the votes he got in the region were because of my efforts and the people only voted him because he was with me,’’ he said.

This, however, is a lie, considering that Raila was and has always been more popular than him in Luhya land, hence his Orange party’s ability to scoop more seats than Ford-Kenya.

He seems to forget that he was not the only Luhya in Raila’s camp, as there was also Amani National Congress (ANC) party chief Musalia Mudavadi, who equally campaigned for Odinga.

Therefore, even if Raila were to be removed from the equation as an outsider, the lawmaker must recognise the efforts employed by Mudavadi, who is also slightly more politically powerful than him.

Wetangula delivered way less compared to Raila’s allies, led by the likes of Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya.

The two, apart from tilting the results in Raila's favour, also proved both Wetangula and Mudavadi wrong by going ahead to retain their seats, after thrashing ANC and Ford Kenya candidates.

Therefore, Wetangula was not of much importance to Raila and is most likely only trying to portray himself as a kingpin, hoping to boost his pending 2022 presidential bid.
