Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has declared his willingness and readiness to be a running mate in the approaching 2022 general elections.

Speaking in Nyeri and Laikipia Counties on Friday, the former Laikipia East MP said that he has left behind a clean track record, expressing his ability to serve in that capacity.

He, however, said that some individuals are already up in arms in a his to soil his same and lower his chances of being picked as Deputy President William Ruto's running mate.

He said that the group is badmouthing him before President Uhuru Kenyatta with an intention of locking him out, but remained hopeful that hr will land the position anyway.

"2022 elections will be here soon and we need to be prepared. Some have tried to soil my name before the President but my work speaks for itself,” he was quoted by the Standard.

His bid was endorsed by Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami and Laikipia Senator Patrick Waigwa who advised the DP to reserve the seat for the CS.

Waigwa also endorsed Kiunjuri as the man to lead the Mt Kenya region after 2022, at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the current kingpin is expected to retire.

“We are telling Dr Ruto that if we (Jubilee Party) are giving him the presidential candidacy, the DP’s position should be reserved for CS Kiunjuri,” said Mukami.

Kiunjuri made it clear that he will not vie for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat in 2022.
