Angry bodaboda riders on Wednesday set on fire a house belonging to a man who was found in possession of a stolen motorbike.
The incident happened at Metembe village in Mwamabera, Kegogi in Marani sub-county, Kisii County.
Bodaboda riders led by Stephen Mayaka stormed Caleb Otiba's house where they found the motorbike buried underground in the sitting room.
"We decided to conduct a search in every house but, was hesitant to give us the key to open his house when we demanded to search his house," said Mayaka.
Mayaka added that after bodaboda riders threatened to lynch him, he agreed to produce the key to his house.
"He gave us the key and pretended he was going to a toilet to relieve himself only to escape. We took out the motorbike and set the house on fire. Local authorities should hunt him down and arrest him failure to which we will lynch him anytime we find him," he stated.
Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet confirmed the incident and challenged youths to stop venturing into crime.
"Youths engaging in stealing will not be spared by the law. Anyone caught in possession of the stolen property must be surrendered to police for court processing," said Kibet.
