Jubilee party leaders drawn from the Kalenjin community in the Rift Valley region will make a major political declaration in the run-up to the 2022 general elections.
According to Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, the region will make clear its plans for the elections, especially the presidential race.
Speaking on Radio Citizen's 'Mjadala Wa Citizen' Thursday morning, Kiptis said that the Kalenjin leaders will also disclose their preferred candidate for the presidential seat.
"Itakapokaribia 2022, sisi kama jamii ya Kalenjin tutaamua na kutangaza mipango yetu ya uchaguzi. (We will announce our plans and direction regarding the poll ahead of the 2022 elections)," he said.
This comes at a time when the region seems to be torn between Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, both of whom are eyeing the top seat.
Kiptis, however, ruled out any chances of the region rallying behind Senator Moi, saying that the plan is to back DP Ruto who is apparently closer to the seat and more assured of a win.
"Sisi tumesema ni Ruto maana ndiye aliye karibu na kiti hicho (we will support Ruto, he is a sure bet)," he said.
Senator Moi is a son to former President Daniel Moi and chair of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) political party.
