They included Woman Representatives Joyce Kamene (Machakos), Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga), Irene Kasalu (Kitui), Catherine Wambianga (Bungoma) and MPs Stephen Mule (Matungulu), Fabian Muli (Kangundo) and National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) chairperson Regina Ndambuki.

Kamene said 52 percent of Kenyan population is women and they need a voice.

"Women have taken most of the population and we need to be heard. Pushing for abolishment of the Woman Representative position is one way of killing that voice," Kamene said.

She said the position has given women a chance to lead and offer services.

The legislators spoke in Kangundo, Machakos County on Monday.

The Machakos County MP's sentiments were echoed by Mule who said women have proven to be equally better leaders just like men hence shouldn't be ignored.

Mule said male MPs will stand with Woman Representatives to ensure that the position isn't scrapped off.

"We have heard some people who are going round Pickering on having the Woman Representative position scrapped, shame on them. That would be the great mistake we would make as a country. We won't allow it," Mule said.

On her part, Adagala said funds allocated to Woman Representatives is not enough hence need to be increased.

"Woman Representatives receive Sh7million per sub-county which is very little compared to the work they do. The funds should be increased to enable us to work better," Adagala said.

However, Ndambuki said Woman Representatives should follow the right procedure in pushing for the fund allocation's increment.

"They should use the right channel which is tabling a motion in parliament, speaking and requesting won't bore any fruits," Ndambuki said.
