Police in Eldoret town on Friday impounded banned polythene bags in West Indies in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
Speaking to the press at West Indies, Uasin Gishu National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) official Keziah Nangila said that the banned polythene bags cost Sh2 million.
"Products that were impounded include carrier bags, plastic bags and most of the products come from border points that are from our neighbouring countries," she said.
"Having the banned polythene bags is against the law and the gazette notice of February 28, 2017, and one may be jailed for 2-4 years or a fine of 2-4 million or both," Nangila added.
The NEMA official called on residents to stop using the polythene bags instead, use the carrier bags which are environment-friendly.
She called on them to report anyone involved in the sale of these illegal products. Nangila promised to take stern action against them.
Eldoret West Director of Criminal Investigation Linah Maina who was also in the raid said three people were arrested and will be arraigned in court over the same.
The three are the Boas Sanjay Gulabchand Dodhia, driver and his turn boy.
