A blind and deaf Brazilian soccer fan has left soccer fans in awe after it emerged that despite his handicapped condition, he is enjoying ongoing World Cup matches to the fullest.
Carlos Junior, 30, was not left behind in enjoying a spirited game between his home country, Brazil, and Costa Rica.
The 30-year-old was born deaf but later lost his eyesight when he was 17 due to Usher Syndrome which is a rare genetic disorder that affects one’s sight and hearing ability.
Junior is said to be following the game with the help of an interpreter, Renato Rodrigues.
Rodrigues took him through every step of the game on a model of a pitch. Basically, the interpreter used his hands and a small table modeled into a pitch to explain to Junior how the match was unfolding.
Junior’s two friends were also with him during the match.
The blind Brazilian soccer fan could not hide his joy after Neymar and Philippe Coutinho scored goals which grounded Brazil’s first win since the World Cup began in Russia over a week ago.
Rodrigues took Junior through reactions of Brazilian players after they won the match.
“We wanted Carlinhos [Mr. Junior's nickname] to feel the emotion that millions of Brazilians feel,” Rodgrigues said as further quoted by Daily Mail.
He added, “It was a great experience guiding Carlinhos along with my friends Helio Fonseja, Beatriz Canuto, Vinicius Alves and Carlos Santana in a very exciting football game for all of us. He got emotional and said he wants more for the next match.”
