President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to claims that his proposed lifestyle audit has a malicious objective.

This follows recent allegations from Jubilee leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto, led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, that the anti-corruption technique has been turned into a weapon aimed at victimising Ruto.

However, speaking during the official opening of the Kenya-US Trade Conference at the United Nations headquarters in Gigiri, Nairobi on Thursday, the President noted that the move is solely aimed at containing the rising graft levels in the nation.

"This is not a fight between me and any individual. It a fight between all Kenyans against a negative vice that is denying our people jobs among other negative effects," he said.

"It a fight against the vice that denies us of our ability to develop our country and to protect the next generation," stated the head of state.

In an interview with a local television station on Sunday, Murkomen accused Uhuru's inner circle of using the audit to point at Ruto, with an aim of raising suspicions on his integrity.

This, he said, is spearheaded by anti-Ruto forces who have heavily invested to ensure that his 2022 presidential ambition does not materialise
