Motorists using the Nairobi-Nakuru highway have been asked to be careful after River Malewa busted its banks due to heavy rainfall pounding the area.
According to Enock Kiminta who works with the Lake Naivasha Waters Resources Association, he fears that the situation could get worse if the gushy water submerges the main bridge connecting Naivasha and Gilgil town.
"Currently it's raining heavily in the Aberdares and the floods could submerge this bridge on the highway and motorists should be cautious," he said.
Many locals from KCC village in Naivasha have already started moving away after their houses over fears of flooding.
Earlier this week, the weather department revealed that the heavy rainfall in the country will continue for the month of December.
“The rainfall distribution, both in time and space, is expected to be generally good. Episodes of heavy rain are likely to continue being experienced in several parts of the country during the period,” Meteorological Department said.
They also mentioned Nakuru County as one of the counties that will be affected by the heavy rainfall throughout the period warning those living in flood-prone areas to move to safer places.
