The whistle has been blown and political rivals are expected to face-off in what will surely turn out to be one of the greatest political battles in the history of Nairobi politics.
It is the battle for Kibra constituency.
Whereas the nomination of star footballer McDonald Mariga to fly the Jubilee Party flag has received too much publicity over the last few days, ANC Party led by Musalia Mudavadi might just shock Deputy President William Ruto, who is seen as the main backer of the former Inter Milan player and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Banking on former campaign manager of Raila, Eliud Owalo, Mudavadi might capitalize on the recent squabbles between ODM and Jubilee to conduct silent campaigns, pitching for his party's candidate.
Politically speaking, Owalo is not a political newcomer.
Having been an insider to the campaign strategies of one of the biggest figures in the country, he might use the same tricks he learnt from Raila to defeat him.
With many seeing the battle to be a Ruto-Raila affair, 'political lightweight ' Owalo will not accept to go down easily.
Whatever the outcome, political fireworks are expected in Kibra, the region that Raila has reigned supreme for decades. But even so, Mudavadi's candidate should not just be ignored.
