Mudavadi has since hinted at taking his second shot at the top seat in the  2022 polls, after appearing third after President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2013 polls.

Malala now wants Mudavadi to move closer to Raila and Uhuru, who are currently working together after their 2018 truce-handshake, saying that the next president will emerge from their union.

According to Malala, it is in the Raila-Uhuru camp where the presidency is being "cooked", adding that the two also enjoy state power, which he cannot make to the top without.

"I have told Mudavadi that there is this thing called BBI, thats where the cooking is being done, that's where the next president is being decided. He is not there, he says that he has not read the BBI (Nimeambia Mudavadi kuna hii kitu inaitwa BBI, hapo ndio vitu inapikwa, na ndio wanapanga nani atakuwa rais. Yeye hayuko pale, anasema eti hajaisoma)," he said in an interview on Radio Citizen, Wednesday morning.

BBI refers to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), a foundation of Raila and Uhuru in their bid to unite the country, which is being viewed as a possible political formation in the making.

Malala said that by returning to Raila, Mudavadi will stand a better chance of inheriting his support base and endorsement, which will be of help even if he doesn't make it in 2022.

"Raila has only a few days left in the political scene, Let Mudavadi be there because Raila's supporters will automatically follow him once he leaves (Raila siku zake kwa siasa ni chache, Mudavadi akae pale maana akitoka kwa siasa, watu wake automatically wataenda kwa Mudavadi)," he added.

He warned that as things stand now, Raila is likely to endorse Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya when his exit time comes, which would completely finish Mudavadi.

He said that in the event that the executive is expanded, Oparanya would be picked to represent the Luhya nation in the national government, a disadvantage for Mudavadi.
