Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has accused the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of staging chaos to scare away voters.
In an interview with NTV on Tuesday, Cheruiyot said that the opposition used violence to win the Kibra by-election after Imran Okoth trounced Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga. He said that the ODM camp has mastered the art of violence during campaigns, adding that he is not impressed at all.
"ODM's strategy in scaring away voters in their stronghold regions is what gave them this win," he said.
The senator said that it is high time violence stopped, adding that Kenya cannot afford to take the direction of countries such as Somalia, Congo, and South Africa.
"Violence is not a good thing. The difference between Kenya and Somalia, Congo and South Africa are what happened in Kibra," he said.
Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo, who spoke during the same interview, said that Imran was a child of the handshake. He noted that the MP-elect emerged victorious because of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
"When Imran Okoth says he is a child of the handshake it is true because he actually is and many more children are going to be born from the handshake. There will be orphans as well likely to be led by the deputy president," he said.
