The call-off came after successful talks between their union leadership and the county government, which they have been accusing of refusing to enforce their agreements.

Kenya Union of Clinical Officers Kisumu Branch Secretary Craus Okumu told the Nation that the move was taken to allow the county to meet their demands as agreed on Thursday.

The agreement indicates that the county shall clear pending salaries for July, August and September and pay the salaries by date five of each month beginning October.

Mr Okumu said that if not fulfilled within three months as agreed, the nurses will begin a fresh strike.

“We have put on hold the strike for three months to see if the county can hold their end of the bargain, which I hope they do," said Okumu as quoted by the Nation.

In an agreement signed by County Secretary Godfrey Kigochi and Chief Officer of Health Dickens Onyango, the county also vowed to settle all pending loan remissions for the medics.

The deal also includes the promotion of workers whose names have been proposed to the employer.
