Members of the Naivasha Travelers (NT) Sacco, security personnel and NTSA officials in Naivasha were warned of carjackers and robbers who target motorists especially during the festive season.

Naivasha OCS Alexander Korir said they have mapped out areas where motorists are most likely to be carjacked and robbed.

Korir said drivers will be held solely responsible if they drop their passengers at these dangerous spots and the passengers get attacked.

Korir said carjacking and robbery incidents are on the rise during festive season and drivers and passengers should be more vigilant.

The police urged PSV drivers to ensure they drop passengers at night at petrol stations or shopping centres saying criminals target passengers with money for shopping.

“We have seen passengers alight from matatus late at night, only for waiting carjackers to pounce and if this happens the drivers will be the first suspects,” said Korir as quoted by the-star.co.ke.

Chairman of the Naivasha Travelers Sacco Daniel Kimani said PSV operators will work closely with the police to ensure accidents and carjackings are reduced.

“We stopped all operations today so our drivers can interact with police and NTSA officers,” said Kimani.

NTSA road safety officer Chris Otieno warned drivers who tamper or are using fake speed governors saying they face arrest.

“We are working with Safaricom so that we can know the real-time speed of PSVs as many drivers tamper with the governors,” said Otieno.
